Another example of crowd-power

I had re-read your post this morning and was working, when a thought crossed my mind. I was playing some songs in Winamp, and due to the slip-of-click, I happened to bring up the "visualizations" in Winamp. Having used both Windows Media Player (WMP) and Winamp, I suddenly realized the number and variety of visualization plugins available with my installation of Winamp as opposed to just very few ones (most of them boring) available with even the latest version of WMP. The diversity in Winamp vis-plugins is made possible, not by a great vis-wiz from Nullsoft, but due to the ability of Winamp to accept third party, "crowd" plugins.

Hope such similar examples would have crossed any average computer user, and most of us are sure to have heard about open-source s/w systems which has been powerful enough to give the "giants" many a sleepless nights...

So, let the crowd-power roar!

Thanks Sreeram for the post. The growing popularity for the "open source" stuffs and the robustness of those systems are the clear examples of crowd power.

I have no doubt why sun microsystem is coming up with OPEN SOLARIS. http://www.opensolaris.org/os/
